I’m guilty of passive consumption.
I scroll through content looking for explicit instructions. “Tell me what to do.” Give me the steps. Hand me the formula.
I’m asking the wrong question.
The real lesson isn’t in what they’re saying. It’s in what they’re doing—the craft behind the output.
When I see someone crushing it, I need to stop consuming their content and start studying their process:
- How did they structure this?
- What pattern are they following?
- What did they emphasize? What did they cut?
- How did they hook attention? How did they maintain it?
The world is open source. But you have to look beyond the surface.
I’m training myself to shift the question from “what should I do?” to “how did they do it?”
The answers are hiding in plain sight. You just need to stop consuming and start reverse-engineering.
